Mission: AAAWE builds the capacity and enhances the scholarship of African women economists
Welcome to the Association for the Advancement of African Women Economists (AAAWE). Established in March 2012, AAAWE is the first and only organization dedicated to building the capacity and skills of African women economists. AAAWE aims to increase the number of African women economists at all levels in academia, business, and government. We engage in various activities, including creating networking and mentoring opportunities, providing scholarships for graduate students, organizing conferences, and facilitating knowledge sharing among members. As of January 2025, we have 1,140 members representing 67 countries 39 in Africa and 28 outside Africa. Approximately 80 percent of our members, or 898 individuals, are African women economists. Among them, 695 live in Africa, which includes 410 professionals and 285 students. The remaining 203 members, consisting of 92 professionals and 111 students, reside outside Africa. Membership is open to anyone interested in supporting the advancement of African women economists. We sincerely appreciate your financial support, which allows us to operate our organization.
